MFJ 70 “Body Memory”

Fall 2019

This collection of texts, along with remembrances of several recently deceased beloved members of the artist moving image community, clarifies a moment within our field and our world in which questions of body and memory are contentious and of great urgency.

“[Barbara Hammer] danced, seemed occasionally transported, as she recalled her 1970s performance-making. We called it body memory.”

Corina Copp “Be Mine, Barbara”

“I came to think of the film strip as a body that’s acquiring memory.”
Alexandre Larose, quoted in Tess Takahashi’s article on his film brouillard #14
